"Black Engagement"

Each ring has a different stone (5mm) in a super-cheap mass-produced pre-fab ring shank, which I've blackened with Liver of Sulfur. For your Gothic Engagement, Alternative Holiday Party, or to piss off your folks. The cost difference, in case you're keeping track, is due entirely to differences in cost of the stones. All rings are size six; no resizing. That's the point of making fun of prefabricated jewelery. Introducing:

Bleeding Heart: lab-created ruby-red corundum, $48
Indecisive: color-shifting lab-created Alexandrite, $124
Bitter?: YAG, as in the LASER, $56 -- this one is sold, I can do another if you ask nice.
Cheap: natural (but possibly irradiated) white topaz, $50
What Happened Last Night?: yellow citrine, $54
I Hate You: black sapphire, $74
"Homesick Angel"

This is a piece which is intentionally contradictory.  The delicate pink, utterly flawless rose quartz cabochon stands in contrast to the blackened, jagged prongs.  The subject, light feathery wings, is full of rivets and is far too heavy for your typical angel.

I've hidden a feather from the breast of a Mourning Dove under the stone (it was left for me in the yard, I didn't take it).  In the right light you can just barely see it.  If you believe in this sort of thing, it would make a fine charm against fear of flying or to ensure you or a loved one come home safe.

It's sterling sheet in three layers, cut, chased, patinated, and riveted.  It's convertable... can be worn as a brooch or a pendant.  The chain is handmade, even the rings.  The idea of riveting a prong setting for a cab is due entirely to Joanna Gollberg.

2.5" x 1.5"

price: $250

"Oysteria"

This was not the piece I meant to make.  I was hammering away on a circle of sheet silver for an entierly different project, and it just wasn't coming out, when I realized I held in my hand what was unmistakably an oyster shell.  So I ground off the sharp bits, soldered on a post for the pearl, and polished it to a mirror finish.  Otherwise it made itself, without consulting me.

There's something terribly suggestive about oysters, just like there's something terribly suggestive about pearls.   Pearls are associated with Aphrodite, and we still think of oysters as aphrodisiac.

.925 sterling silver sheet, "baroque" freshwater cultured pearl, rubber neck cord.

1.5" x 2"

price: $150

"Strip of Sky"

Infinity is a difficult, if not impossible, concept to grasp.  We can be told how infinite is the number of stars, and how the universe stretches on into infinity.  But on a clear, moonless night it still looks like the stars are just overhead.  And that if we wanted to, we could reach up, catch a loose corner, and peel off a strip of nighttime.  Maybe see what the back of the sky looks like.

I made the first version of this piece for my Mom, who was the astronomer of my childhood.
This is also my last piece to use diamonds.

.925 sterling silver sheet, surface mounted diamonds (2 2mm and 5 1mm total, SI).  SIlver is blacked on "star" side and mirror finished on the "back of the sky" side.

necklace, 4" x 0.5"
earrings, 1" x 0.25"

price for the set: $500
That's all I have available right now.

If you have something in mind, but don't see it or suspect it might not exist at all yet, contact me at
